Hey everyone – the big day arrived: on October 28th we received admin’s full monetary demand book. Before getting into the details, I want to highlight the additional strike mandate vote from the librarians keeping the pressure on the administration.

Now for the bad news. Nearly everything in their monetary demand book is the status quo:
Pension? Status Quo
Benefits? Status Quo
Professional Development fund? Status Quo
French language courses? Status Quo
For Salary we get the status quo with new makeup. They’ve offered meager increases to salary minima which applies to very few faculty, while excluding Librarians and Faculty Lecturers from these increases. Annually, they propose a base rate increase of 2% a year but comes with a reduced merit package so there is no effective wage increase.

Admin said they were open to new proposals on some issues such as French language courses, and professional development fund but that there was absolutely no openness to considering a new pension plan. We made it clear that we want to continue bargaining but that we would strike if McGill maintains their status quo position. The status quo is unacceptable and means an effective loss of purchasing power for faculty at McGill.

Our next dates are Nov 17th, Nov 24th, and December 10th, and December 17th. In the meantime, we will be holding a series of mobilization meetings to discuss details of strike planning – it is time to show the administration we are serious about a fair deal.”
